The weasel lemur | the weasel
The weasel lemur is a nocturnal lemur and lives alone. Despite its name and physical appearance, the weasel lemur has no direct hereditary link with the weasel. The weasel lemur’s diet consists mainly of leaves and fruits.Recent research has shown that the weasel lemur was probably descended from an extinct lemur family, the Megaladapidae.
The weasel lemur is an excellent climber, they are able to quickly climb to the top of a tree and make impressive jumps from tree to tree.
The average territory of a weasel lemur is quite small, less than 50a however it is very aggressive when another of its congeners enter this space.
During the day the weasel lemur is found at a height of 1m to 8m above the ground to sleep in a tree hole. Like many solitary species, the weasel lemur is a polygamous species.
During the breeding period (September to December) the male mates with all females near his territory.
