The white-throated rail
Robust and colorful rail. The white-throated rail measures between 30 and 33 cm. The male weighs from 145 to 218 g and the female from 138 to 223 grams. The back is green, the lower part of the sparrow is reddish, the throat is white. Its legs are long, its toes thin, its neck is long, its beak is straight and dark.
The white-throated rail is omnivorous. It feeds on mollusks, crustaceans, green turtle and eggs. The bird lives in forests, mangroves, fruticides, wet scrub, swamps and rice fields. Open bushy areas as well as pebble and sand beaches. The bird does not fly; it does not migrate. The rail has seen a numerical decline of 30% over three generations in 10 years. Its natural predator is the domestic cat. The bird is dependent on its living environment, the species is considered “least concern”.
